fedora 20: shutdown freezes

yep, after solving my start-up issue, i got a shutdown issue. shutdown button and terminal commands from my gnome freeze my box. only a force shutdown via the power button works. when i started searching the internet for solution, i found a great amount of bug reports and call for help, earliest on fedora 16, which has no response for solution. i read somewhere that it could be a kernel issue, though, i doubt it because it has been experienced even in old fedoras. what solved my issue? a kernel update via yum.

# yum update kernel

somehow it fixed something. so i'll stop playing around with my box, for now. i can wait till there's a new kernel i can update to, in case i face another shutdown issue.
